Berry Kiwi Smoothie Bowl

Smoothie bowls make a great breakfast, or lunch. They are healthy, packed with vitamins, and can be very filling. Here is a recipe that I like to make, but feel free to let your creativity shine.

For one bowl:
  • 1 banana
  • 2 kiwifruits
  • Mixed berries (frozen or fresh)
  • 2 tbs yogurt
  • Water
  • Chia seeds (optional)
1. Place all ingredients into a blender; fruits first, followed by yogurt and chia seeds.
2. Add a bit of water, just a couple tablespoons.
3. Blend until you obtain a thick consistency. Be careful not to blend too much, especially if you still like to find chunks of fruits in your smoothie.
4. Pour into a bowl and decorate with toppings of your choice (fruits, coconut, chia seeds, honey, granola, chopped nuts, chocolate, etc.).

Extra tips:
  • Kiwifruits, in my opinion, don’t have a very strong taste, so be careful not to add too many berries, as this will overpower the taste of kiwifruits. Besides that, the amount of berries you add is totally up to you.
  • You can use any type of berries. I like mixed berries because I find that they add a bit more  flavor, but strawberries work great for this recipe too.
  • If you're using only fresh fruits, you might want to add a few ice cubes to the mix.
  • You can use any flavor of yogurt. I usually use vanilla, but strawberry, blueberry or raspberry would work too.
  • Be extra careful not to add too much water. To be able to put toppings on your bowl, the smoothie must be quite thick. Otherwise, everything sinks to the bottom. I like to start with just a tiny bit of water; you can always add more as you go.
  • I like to pour honey on top of this smoothie bowl. It cuts down the acidity from the fruits a little bit.
  • I find that granola is the best topping for any smoothie bowl. It adds texture and makes it more filling.
Pretend you're sitting on a tropical island and enjoy!
