Ile aux Lièvres

Picture
Two years ago, my grandparents celebrated 60 years of marriage. That is something worth mentioning, and we, as a family, had the idea of going on a small trip together, something we had never done before (can you believe that?!). In June, we decided that we should go to Ile aux Lièvres, a tiny island right off Rivière-du-Loup, in the province of Quebec, Canada. My brother organised everything and, by some miracle, we managed to find a weekend during the summer where no one was busy. This little 24-hour getaway felt incredible and allowed us to truly unplug and relax. The scenery was so beautiful and I got to take so many pictures, I just had to share some of my favorites with you. Hope you enjoy this quiet little trip at the heart of nature.

There are no roads to get to the island. The only way to get there is hop on a small boat that’ll allow you to make the crossing.

This is a small island right next to the Ile aux Lièvres. You can also stay on that island, and you can even spend the night in the old lighthouse. It’s really incredible to see these two tiny islands, seemingly forgotten by (almost) everyone.

Once on the island, you have three options as far as accommodations go: the inn (which is where we stayed), cottages that you can rent, or wild camping. Everything is very clean, with the perfect mix of rustic and modern (except for the wild camping. That's just wilderness).

During our stay, we splitted into groups and decided to walk around the island to explore. We started by walking along the shore, taking in the breathtaking view. We even saw seals in the distance!

It was really special to see the animals in their natural habitat, and to see nature unspoiled. It felt like a privilege to be there to witness all of it.

Wind in my hair, alongside the man I love. I’m happy.

The inn provided each of us with a lunch box to take with us on our adventure. It was healthy and delicious; a chicken sandwich, veggies, an apple and a chocolate muffin.

After many years exposed to the tide, the rocks are now sharp and fragmented, like the pages of an old book.

On our way back, we decided to walk in the woods rather than on the shore. Walking in a deserted and seldom visited forest gave me some serious Blair Witch vibes.

After our exploration, we all reunited at the little cafe to talk over latte and espresso (and homemade cake!).

I hope this post inspired you to take some time off grid and enjoy the beauty that nature has to offer.
Until next time,
Much love,
