Popped Teeth Donuts

Picture
A big part of Halloween is watching scary movies, right? In the run up to the 31st of October, I always have a scary movie marathon that usually leaves me unable to sleep for a couple of days. But it’s all part of the fun. I mean, what would be Halloween without a little fright?
To enjoy a night of movies, there are two essential things: a blanket (“I’m not hiding, I’m cold!”) and snacks. You can always go for the traditional pop corn and candy, but one thing that I really like is cake. The only problem is that after two bites, you’re usually full and you still have an hour and a half of movie to watch. That’s why I created this recipe, which is the perfect blend of the three: pop corn, candy and cake.

The secret to this recipe is using buttered pop corn jelly beans. These little guys are packed with flavor – some might even say a little too much flavor. That’s why they are great paired with something else, like the subtle and light taste of plain donuts. I went for mini donuts so that you can have more than one without feeling full. They are super easy to snack on or incorporate to a big bowl of treats. Plus, the pieces of jelly beans popping through totally look like teeth (hence the name). These are the perfect companion for a movie extravaganza.

Extra tips:
  • I use a piping bag to divide the batter because it is quite runny and the cavities of the pan are pretty small. If you don’t have a piping bag, you can always use a very small spoon.
  • These rise quite a bit in the oven, so make sure to leave a little bit of space when you fill the cavities with batter.
  • As soon as these are out of the oven, run a knife along the edges of each donut, to ensure it doesn’t stick. Then let cool in the pan for a bit, before transferring onto a cooling rack.

These are highly addicting, especially because they are so small; you feel like you could eat a whole batch. I recommend serving them mixed in a bowl of treats, or along with another snack. They are best enjoyed warm, but you can keep them for up to three days. Enjoy!
Much love,
